Doc Adam Is Getting Incredible by docadam

FINALLY. I made this mix over the summer and a few fits and starts of attempted exclusive blog releases I have given up (no hard feelings to any of the unnamed folks in question) and decided to release this on my own before it gets too old. This was my attempt to put together a primarily Tropical and Disco inspired mix, with a chunk of original production and an obscene amount of heavy editing along the way. Most folks that I know who have gotten their hands on it are big fans. Hopefully you will be too.

OFFICIAL NARCISSISTIC RELEASE NOTES

Doc Adam has been an extremely busy man over the course of the last year. With the release of a mammoth list of Moombahton edits, DJ edits and remixes of nearly every genre of music imaginable, multiple mixtapes, the La Reconquista EP, and DJing all over the U.S. as well as in his home base of Portland, OR - Doc has stayed true to his trademark lack of concern for genre and traditionally codified domains of music. With school back in session - Doc is still a working Philosophy Professor - he has decided to release a new mixtape to tide you over until he can get time away from his office hours to make more music. Here is, Doc Adam Is Getting Incredible. This mix reflects his love for Moombahton, Tropical Bass, Disco and more.

In the near future, you can expect an EP of original Moombahton tracks - a few of which are featured on this mix - along with a few commissioned remixes for major label artists. Doc is keeping his nose to the grindstone trying to finish a book about club culture written from his perspective as a specialist in Post-Kantian Continental Philosophy while continuing to churn out dancefloor friendly, forward thinking jams, and keep his weight down for up coming Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments.

The weekly event known as The Do Over has been the jump-off for 7 years straight in Los Angeles and is now making monthly stops for the second summer in a row in a Portland, OR - and they started it with a BANG! The Adidas sponsored event at Produce Row Cafe had a huge following last year and overflowed to a massive level during its first month this summer - there was a line down the block for the whole event. May's Do Over featured residents Haycock and Jamie Strong along with special guests DaM-Funk and Supreme La Rock and local DJ, Ante Up's own, DJ Nature. It was a great event and an ideal way to kick off the second season of Portland's hosting of The Do Over.

This video was done out of love for the long-standing Do Over party that was brought to Portland last year. In no way does the Do Over, Adidas or Produce Row have any ties to Ante Up PDX or this Video... Long story short, no one paid us to do this video and we aren't getting anything out of it. We're just showing love to everyone that helps put on this event.

Twin sisters Paris and Amber Strother along with Anita Bias slipped a three song EP out on Amazon and then watched as all hell broke loose on the web. Phonte began the movement via Twitter and then everyone from DJ Brainchild to ?uestlove gathered an earful of their beautiful music and fell apart. To say what they have is awesome would be an understatement. We can’t wait to hear what’s next from King.

Another pack of edits - this isn't the grip of edits of The Cure I was promising earlier, that is getting a bit more work done to it before it shows its face. However, it is a grip of more 80's joints and beyond - with a heavy emphasis on Tainted Love, as you'll quickly note. I made an extremely unnecessary transition between the Gloria Jones version and the Soft Cell joint, but the crowd ate it up the only time I played it. So alas. Off we go.

Big News! Fresh Selects is back.. Oh and the green tape is out? Naw I just kidding... (I hope Illmaculate doesn't see that). But yes the green tape is out and Kenny Fresh is back with the first post from the man in a long time. To keep it real I'm happy to see dude back. Well the rest of the stuff below is from Kenny at Fresh Selects or FRSHSLCTS as he like to call it. So enjoy and i'm going to let him do his thing.

Today, Illmaculate & G_Force bring us The Green Tape -
their collaborate reworking of soul legend Al Green‘s 2008 release, Lay It Down.
For what was originally meant to be an instrumental release,
G_Force had sampled & flipped the entire ?uestlove & James Poyser-produced LP,
song-by-song & piece by piece – all in one day.
& then later on – Illmaculate, who just happened to be in G_’s studio that day,
took it upon himself to write to the beat CD & voila! – The Green Tape was born.

Although the project together as naturally it did,
it still found both artists challenging themselves in new ways -
G_ limiting himself to just one sample source,
& much less live instrumentation that he’s known for,
matched with Ill stepping out of his typecast comfort zone of battle raps
& continuing to push his subject matter into more personal & universal places.
Both of which combine to make this a unique project in either artist’s catalog,
as well as in any fan’s music library.

Among other things, The Green Tape is also a 100% Portland project.
With Ill being, for some time now, one of the city’s most talented & far-reaching voices,
& G_ already having a large impact on the local scene in his only first year living here -
the fact that Portland would be well-represented already went without saying.
But on top of that – all of the guest appearances are from Portland peers
(including Ill’s hometeam, Sandpeople & G’s partner in TxE, Epp),
plus the complete album was written, produced & recorded within the city limits -
& even the album’s artwork & now its release were all handled by the city’s own.
With a rich history already behind us,
2011 is the year that we really let the rest of the world know about it.
